Here are a few links to things that I find interesting. They include a Nature article about regenerative medicine, specifically the “ghost heart.” An investigative procedure that may prove to end organ failure. Regenerative medicine and stem cells are ‘where its at,’ get on-board with these links, explore and read.

Also another medical interest of mine has to do with a promising area of research in Fecal Microbiota Transplants (FMTs), these are not meant to gross anyone out, my intention is to bring light to something that is completely logical. Apparently Wall Street also cares about feces, a company dedicated to fecal pills, Seres Therapeutics, debuted their IPO last Thursday (6/25) and their shares “tripled in their first day of trading on Friday, giving the company a first-day market cap of 1.9 billion.”

This is a promising medical procedure that I am confident will become commonplace in the future and it has the ability to change so many lives. This includes many of our grandparents who have a high probability of contracting C. Diff in nursing homes, if they haven’t already. I have attached a national geographic video to help illustrate the problem here, the video is bleak but has a happy ending. For millions of people this is simple treatment with almost immediate, lasting results.

A healthy gut microbiota means more than just good digestion, it can also affect your mood and behavioral dispositions. It is no longer the case that you can consider your cells the most prevailing component of “you.” It is suggested that humans outnumbered by bacteria living on or within them, sometimes by 10:1. However that ratio has been contested recently and it is more closely viewed as a 1:1 ratio by some researchers. But the idea that we are a human host remains true and our microbiome is very important to our health, psychologically, immunologically and physically. If your bacteria are unhealthy or unbalanced then so are you. Listen to the NPR story about how your gut bacteria have been linked to your mind. Article Here
